GERM 101 Elementary German (4). Develops the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) in a cultural context.  In addition to mastering basic vocabulary and grammar, students will communicate in German about everyday topics.  Two extra hours, one afternoon per weekCourse flyer.

GERM 203 Intermediate German (3).  Students acquire necessary materials and opportunities to develop further their language skills in a cultural context. They review and expand upon the basic grammar covered in beginning German. Course flyer.

GERM 279 Once Upon A Fairy Tale: Fairy Tales and Childhood, Then and Now (COMPL 279) (3). MAYMESTER. Considers fairy tales from several different national traditions and historical periods against the backdrop of folklore, literature, psychoanalysis, and the socializing forces directed at children. Students may not receive credit for both GERM 279/CMPL 279 and GERM 54. Course flyer.

GERM 400 Advanced German Grammar (3). Prerequisites, GERM 302 and 303; permission of the instructor for students lacking the prerequisites. A study of current German structure and usage. Course strengthens the writing of graduate students and helps them confront the problems most frequently faced in speaking and teaching. Hybrid course with two face-to-face meetings a week. Readings, video lectures and other assignments will be completed outside of class. Course flyer.

RUSS 275 Russian Fairy Tale (3). An introduction to the Russian fairy tale with attention to its roots in Russian folklore, its influence on Russian culture, and its connections with American folk and popular culture. Lectures and readings in English. Course flyer.
