Department of Disability Services
The priority of the Department of Disability Services is to identify
and eliminate barriers through:
- Consultation with faculty, staff and students
to support the University's commitment to an accessible
environment.
- The provision of reasonable accommodations that
address individual needs while at the same time maintaining the
integrity of programs and services in the University.
Services that address barriers limiting a student's ability to
independently meet the numerous demands of university life are
available to all students (undergraduate, graduate/professional, full
and part-time).
Eligibility
To effectively address individual needs, documentation describing
current functional abilities is required. The Department is also
prepared to assist individuals with temporary injuries.
Contact
The office is located on the second floor, Suite 2126, of the
Student Academic Services Building, 450 Ridge Road, and is open 8:00
a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The staff can be
contacted by telephone (919)962-8300 (V/T), by electronic mail at

Campus Health Services
Campus Health Services (CHS), located next to Kenan Stadium in the James A. Taylor Building, provides a broad range of ambulatory, primary care, and prevention services. Specialty care services are also available, including orthopedic, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, travel information and immunization, and allergy management. For convenience, in-house laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and physical therapy services are also available. Call 966-2281. Additional information about the services available at CHS is online (campushealth.unc.edu).
The Counseling and Wellness Services (CWS), located on the third floor of the James A. Taylor building, is available to help UNC-Chapel Hill students solve personal, social, academic, and career problems by providing individual evaluation, counseling, psychotherapy, and career counseling. Call 966-3658 or online (campushealth.unc.edu).
Any student, spouse of student or post-doc who has paid the
student health fee for the summer session is eligible for health care
at the CHS. The fee covers the cost of most professional services (no
office visit charge) provided by CHS physicians, physician extenders,
nurses, physical therapists, psychologists, counselors, and health
educators. Students should be aware that the campus health fee does not
provide benefits at UNC Hospitals or other facilities. You are
responsible for charges incurred at the UNC Hospitals, Emergency
Department, or other medical facilities. There are reduced charges for
drugs, miscellaneous supplies, laboratory tests, x-rays and specialty
services. Spouses not enrolled in the University as students become
eligible to receive the same services as students by demonstrating
appropriate insurance coverage and by paying the campus health fee at
CHS. Hours of operation in the summer are 8 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.,
Mon.-Fri.; closed on Saturday and Sunday. Preferred CHS office hours on
an appointment basis are 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Mon.-Fri. Call 966-2281
for an appointment. When CHS is closed, call CHS-HealthLink at
966-2281.
Because the health fee does not cover hospitalization, surgery, and
intensive care, it is strongly recommended that students have
additional health insurance. The University has made arrangements with
Blue Cross/Blue Shield/North Carolina to offer group health insurance
coverage, including major medical benefits to single and married
students, their spouses and children. Contact Hill, Chesson, and Woody
(Insurance Brokers), P.O. Box 3666, Chapel Hill, NC 27515, (919)
967-5900 or online (www.hillchesson.com).
North Carolina Law mandates that all new students at the University
document the completion of immunization requirements. Failure to comply
may result in cancellation of registration 30 days after classes begin.
Vaccines are offered at CHS at reduced rates for students who need to
complete their immunization requirement.
- Textbooks
Textbooks are available from the Student Stores which is located in the Daniels Building . For questions regarding textbooks used for specific courses, please contact them at 962-5024.
