Carolina Student Union: The Carolina Union is an organization of students, professional staff, and part-time student staff who provide programs, services, and facilities that all members of the campus community need in their daily lives. The Union contributes to the educational mission of the institution through the provision of cultural, social, educational, and entertainment programs.

Campus Recreation/Facilities: The Campus Recreation Program, located in 101 Student Recreation Center, is made up of five distinct programs:

Intramural Sports (843-PLAY) includes a variety of team and individual sports leagues and tournaments, including softball, basketball, sand volleyball, and  tennis. The entry deadline for First Session is Friday, May 15, 2009; for Second Session, Thursday, June 25, 2009. Full time students who are interested in serving as officials should contact Justin Ford at jgford@email.unc.edu; no experience is necessary. Entry forms are available in 101 Student Recreation Center (SRC).

Summer Sport Clubs (962-1013) include rugby and martial arts among others. Contact Jason Halsey (962-1013) for contact names and phone numbers of summer sports clubs.

Carolina Fitness is housed in both the Rams Head Recreation Center (962-RHRC) and  the Student Recreation Center (SRC) (962-4SRC).  Both offer state-of-the-art weight training equipment and cardio-vascular machines, and a variety of fitness classes.  Additionally, the RHRC offers indoor climbing and an indoor track to help you beat the heat. Stop by the SRC to make an appointment for one of the following services:

  • Fitness Check-up (computerized assessment and consultation)...$20
  • Jump Start (Check-up plus 1 personal training session)..............$35
  • Personal Training (5 personal training sessions).........................$125

Carolina Outdoor Education (843-4OEC) is the outdoor recreation component of Campus Recreation. Sign your group up for a team building challenge course;  take a backpacking trip; or enjoy sea kayaking -- just some of the opportunities available.

Open Recreation (843-PLAY) offers many drop-in hours of basketball, racquetball, swimming, tennis, and more. Be sure to check out the brand new outdoor complex between Ram Village and the Smith Center.
