North Carolina Resident for Tuition Purposes

By default, all applicants are initially classified as non-resident of North Carolina for tuition purposes. If you claim to be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes in the summer visitor online application, but your status is classified as undetermined, a residency application will be provided in your admission decision packet. The completed residency application must be returned to Summer School by the deadline below to provide us with information needed to evaluate your claim as a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes.

Deadlines apply and are strictly enforced. Deadlines for Summer 2014 are:

Maymester/First Session              May 27, 2014

Second Session                           July 2, 2014

Failure to meet these deadlines and/or failure to submit the residency application will result in the applicant being classified and charged as a non-resident of North Carolina for tuition purposes.

You must  have been domiciled in North Carolina for a minimum of twelve consecutive months before the first day of classes in order to be eligible for consideration as a resident for tuition purposes. To prove that you are domiciled in North Carolina, you must show that you are physically present in the state with the demontrated intent to make North Carolina your permanent home of indefinite duration.

Visit UNC Registrar’s Residency webpage for information on North Carolina residency for tuition purposes, residency applications, and the North Carolina Residency Manual.
